The Métis Fund

Important Notice for Future Métis Applicants: Changes in Funding Availability

The Métis Fund: An Overview

The Métis Fund, initially established under the Indian Residential School Settlement Agreement (IRSSA), was designed to support educational programs promoting healing, reconciliation, and knowledge building for Métis people and organizations. These funds were limited and have been allocated through the National Indian Brotherhood (NIB) Trust Fund, as per the terms and conditions of the IRSSA.

Funding Status as of March 31, 2023

As of March 31, 2023, the Métis Fund had a reported balance of $1,601,325. The anticipated funding to Métis beneficiaries for the 2023-2024 fiscal year is $1,050,000.

Looking Ahead to 2024-2025

The 2024-2025 funding cycle will likely be the last year that we will be able to provide funding to Métis individuals and organizations.

The projected estimated fund balance for the Métis Fund, as of March 31, 2024, is approximately $551,325*

*Note- this may vary due to investment income and beneficiaries reporting results.
